LO2: Task 3: Analysing a radio show
Intended radio station / broadcaster
I will be creating a 5 minute radio show this show will be called 'Teen.Live'. Teen. Live
will be broadcasted on Sheffield Live. As Sheffield Live is a community
radio station it is aimed at the community of Sheffield. I know this radio show is broadcasted for the community of Sheffield as it includes, news about the local people, issues, music and
culture and many more. Sheffield Live is a independent company owned by
the Community Media Association.
Target audience
The target audience will be aimed at teenagers ranging from 13-19 year olds, it will not be aimed at a specific gender as it only applies to teenagers themselves. It also wont be aimed at any specific ethnicity as the target audience is specifically aimed around the age range of teenagers. It won't be aimed at certain location as teenagers don't live in a certain area, however as it is a community radio show the main location of the audience will be Sheffield. The demographics for ABC1 would be 15% as the audience would need to have access to the internet to be able to tune in for the talk show and should be in education as the show will have many discussions involving education and tips for exams. ABC2 would then be 20% as it will still apply to all teenagers so the teenagers that aren't in education can still tune in as the discussions as it will be about other subjects in general that are relate-able to all teenagers. NRS stands for National Readership Survey which is a joint venture company in the UK that provides estimates of the number and habits of people reading newspapers and magazines.
The successful people(A)- 4% This is because that many teenagers wouldn't be as successful as majority of them will be still in education
NRS (National readership Survey)

| A | Higher managerial, administrative and professional | 4 |
| B | Intermediate managerial, administrative and professional | 6 |
| C1 | Supervisory, clerical and junior managerial, administrative and professional | 15 |
| C2 | Skilled manual workers | 20 |
| D | Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers< | 25 |
| E | State pensioners, casual and lowest grade workers, unemployed with state benefits only | 30 |
Content plan
Teen Live is going to be a radio station for teenagers and the issues they go through with school, exam, life issue and also giving them tips about these issues. The gender would be both genders as its main aim is just teenagers and would be specified at any gender. As we will be helping the audience through school and exams we will provide revision tips these will not only be how to revise it will also be how to cope with
stress and talk about the relate-able subjects in which the audience can
get involved in. Hopefully this show will benefit teenagers in the area as they will
feel like their not alone in some situations and also help them
throughout their teenagers years as it's the most hardest years of their
life. Each show will include all these type of issues for only a few
minutes, each week the show will have a certain theme such as 'Mental
health week' or 'Exam week', or 'Job week', as the main subjects of the
show will be based around the theme and how ever as this radio show is meant to make the audience connect ad feel comfortable the host will go off topic from the theme but still keep it related to teenage life. The show will be
broadcasted weekdays at 8:10am-8:15am because this will be the time when
most teenagers and college students are in full time education and will be traveling to there schools or colleges, this will be something to listen to on the bus, in the
car or even at school or college with your friends.
Jingle: Drum beats, then piano or guitar, which carries on while different teenagers come in to say "Teen" and repeat it a few time until it gets really fast and then take all music off and say "Live" to finish.
DJ/Presenters
The Presenters will be me and Chloe Carlisle.

LO1: Task 2: Analysing a talk and music radio show
a). Running order
In this section I will be discussing the running order of 'Spirit of the Wapentake' and discuss the structure of the show. The show begins with different advertisements these are adverts such as the Sheffield Live advertisement, heating, taxis, a restaurant, ladies fashion, expose magazine and another taxi advertisement, which lasts for 4 minutes and 25 seconds.
After the advertisements the host introduces the show and by starting it off, they play some music. Each music played throughout the show, are all different genres to attract a wide range audience. They then interview some guests that are opening up a new studio called Hybrid Studio which is a dance company, they come on the show to promote their company to get some of the Peace in the Park listeners involved as it may interest this type of audience, the company is in the local area (Heeley). More songs are then played throughout the whole of the show from different genres that attract many different listeners. To finish of the show the Sheffield Live advertisement is then played at the end, this is maybe how each show may finish.
b). DJ/Presenters
Presented by Graham Marshall & Sinead Rankin, with help from rock gods Bona and Andy. Live from Studio 1 every Wednesday teatime 5 till 7.
c). Content
This radio show plays the best rock music from the last 40 years or so as well as letting you know the latest rock news, gig reviews and local rock gig information. We also publicize new local, national and international rock bands. Each show is painstakingly researched and lovingly crafted. Unfortunately, all that goes out of the window as soon as the sliders are cranked up.The Wap, the Buccaneer Bar and Rebels are long gone and some of us may be looking a bit worse for wear, but the Sheffield rock scene is still alive and kicking with great rock pubs and live music venues all over the place.
d). Target audience
Spirit of the Wapentake's target audience are the local community of sheffield, this is because their shows are based around the local people as they can get involved with some of the show just by volunteering. The target age are young adult and older, this is because there aren't any children's shows that are broadcasted as most of the shows are based on older subjects. This radio station is aimed at those people who are into rock music, this is because this podcast consists of playing rock music.

LO1 Task 1: Investigating a radio station
Programme types -
Sheffield Live! is an independent community radio station, which means it operates different to a commercial radio station and BBC. It is owned by the Community Media Association. Sheffield live produce programmes such as Communities Live, Spirit of the Wapentake, Soul purpose, The Local Talent Show, Vancouver Manoeuver. Communities Live is broadcast most weekdays from 12pm to 1 pm. Different groups of volunteers produce and present the show each day, providing a wide mix of styles and subjects for discussion: local and national politics; music and art from Sheffield; community events, and much more. The goal is to cover anything and everything, especially if it is relevant to Sheffield. It is a great place to put topics in the spotlight, and people are encouraged to contact the Communities Live team with ideas. Spirit of the Wapentake is live every Wednesday at 5pm till 7pm, this programme plays the best rock music from the last 40 years or so as well as letting you know the latest rock news and local rock gig information, this show is broadcasted for the people who enjoys the genre of Rock music . Soul purpose is a programme which plays a myriad of deep soulful emotive music including the deepest of deep house, soulful garage, jazz, funk, disco, hip hop, soul, techno and anything between, locally and from around the globe, this is again for anybody who enjoys these genres. The Local Talent Show features some of the best upcoming bands and artists from Sheffield and surrounding areas. It is broadcast every Friday from 4pm to 5 pm and is made up of a mix of interviews, music and live acoustic performances. Vancouver Manoeuver is laid-back West Coast Canadian guys with some awareness breaking good music from back home into the UK and putting it in perspective.
Genres -
Most of the shows are music such as Vancouver Manoeuver, Spirit of the wapentake and Soul Purpose. These are all music shows, however they are different to the usual charts music which can be found on BBC Sheffield as these are shows which focus on one specific genre of music such as cultural music brought to the radio station by Vancouver Manoeuver. However there are other radio show such as Communities live which is a very local base show which talks alot about the community of Sheffield. Sheffield live also have shows about the news such as 'Business Live' in this radio show it includes business news, debate and interviews for anyone interested in growing or starting a business also including social enterprises. Guests include business people sharing their tips and advice on how they have overcome challenges and inspiration. Another genre Sheffield Live produce are a talk show such as 'Talking Balls' this is a radio show about sports in which they talk about the latest ports news and stories with interviews, previews and competitions.
Audience profiles -
Sheffield Live!'s target audience are the local community of Sheffield, this is because their shows are based around the local people as they can get involved with some of the show just by volunteering, this means that the target audience is a wide range of people, this is also because of the variety of genres of shows that this radio provides us with. The target age are young adults and older, this is because there aren't any children's shows that are broadcasted as most of the shows are based on older subjects. I have created an audience profile for the show "Spirit of the Wapentake" which is broadcasted by Sheffield Live. The main target audience for the broadcast is people who are interested in rock music. The target age of this radio show is young adults and older. The target gender of this show are male, this is because people who like rock music are mainly males.
Production Process -
Different areas of the production team work together to produce products by volunteering to help create shows, this is because Sheffield Live is a non profit community organization as it is for social gain which means that it is broadcast to for the benefit to society, this is done by producing or consuming a good service. Social benefit includes all the private benefits plus any external benefits of production consumption. If a good has significant external benefits, then the social benefit will be greater than the private benefit. Different people from the production team work on different things such as pre production, this is the part of the radio show where the teams organise the treatment for shows, Script for shows, Research (Cultures - Music), Team meeting organise schedule and production content, Organise PRS and stick to ethical guidelines, this is also the part where sound effects are made. After the production team has completed pre production they then begin with the production of the show this is the live broadcast which is of the presenters talking using the sound effects and interviews that were made in pre-production. Post production is where the live broadcast is edited through to make it run smoothly and also this is when adverts are added.
Market share -
BBC radio Sheffield is a main competitor of Sheffield Live!, this is because this radio show is also a based around the local community and also are a big company which many people know about, this is a disadvantage to Sheffield Live! as the radio show will need to work harder to attract the attention of the local community which means they will need to broadcast a wide variety of genres in the shows to appeal to more people.
